Choosing the right type of lighting for your outdoor spaces can significantly impact both aesthetics and energy efficiency. When it comes to outdoor lighting installation, two popular options homeowners often consider are LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) and CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps). Each has its advantages, but which one is the better choice for your landscape lighting installation? Let’s compare both options to help you make an informed decision.
LEDs are widely known for their energy efficiency. They use up to 80% less electricity compared to traditional incandescent bulbs and are even more efficient than CFLs. For homeowners seeking to reduce energy costs over time, LEDs are the clear winner in outdoor lighting installation. Given that outdoor lights often run for long hours, the efficiency of LEDs can lead to substantial savings.
LED bulbs are designed to last much longer than their CFL counterparts. With a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours, they significantly reduce the need for frequent replacements, making them a convenient and cost-effective option for outdoor settings. Outdoor lighting often faces exposure to harsh weather conditions, and the durable design of LEDs ensures they remain functional through rain, wind, and extreme temperatures.
LEDs offer a variety of brightness levels and color temperatures, allowing for greater customization in landscape lighting installation in Alpharetta. Whether you want a warm, inviting glow or a bright, focused beam for security, LEDs can be adjusted to meet your specific outdoor lighting needs. Additionally, LEDs reach full brightness immediately when turned on, unlike CFLs, which may take some time to warm up.
Since LEDs consume less energy, they are more environmentally friendly. They also do not contain mercury, unlike CFLs, making them safer for disposal. If sustainability is a key factor in your outdoor lighting installation decisions, LEDs are the eco-friendlier choice.
CFLs generally have a lower upfront cost compared to LEDs. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option for your outdoor lighting installation, CFLs may be appealing. However, it’s important to note that while the initial cost is lower, CFLs tend to consume more energy over time, which can increase your electricity bills.
While CFLs don’t last as long as LEDs, they still offer a respectable lifespan, typically around 8,000 to 10,000 hours. This means fewer replacements compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, although you’ll need to replace them more often than LEDs.
CFLs are known for providing a softer, warmer light that can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. For homeowners who prefer a softer glow for landscape lighting installation, CFLs can be an effective choice.
While CFLs can offer lower upfront costs and a warmer lighting effect, LEDs outperform them in almost every category for outdoor lighting installation. LEDs’ superior energy efficiency, longer lifespan, durability in harsh outdoor conditions, and environmental benefits make them the ideal choice for most homeowners.
In summary, if you’re looking for long-term savings, durability, and flexibility in your outdoor lighting setup, LEDs are the clear winner. For those on a tighter budget or seeking a warm ambiance for specific areas, CFLs can be a viable option.

Absolute Lighting installed my outdoor flood lights 2 years ago and they are beautiful! They did such a great job that I used them to setup and take down the Christmas lights for the past 2 years. I would highly recommend them. Frank always responds to questions and automatically puts me on the schedule for set up and take down of the Christmas Lights.
Frank and the team at Abulous were great to work with. They came out and retro-upgraded some previous lighting that we had done a few years back and made it look as seamless and continuous as possible. They also worked with us on the best (& most economical) way to light up a hard to reach area of our yard. They also followed up with us after we had another group of workers "disturb" some of the lighting wires and came back out and fixed everything back up again. Very friendly, dependable local resource who do great work. Highly recommend.
After reviewing multiple companies we contracted with Abilous Lighting to create outside accent lighting for our home, backyard patio, walkways, & fire pit. Their ideas and design were the best! It was a pleasure working with Frank Hasty, who did the design, and his crew of Brandon & Rusty who performed the work. All were excellent to work with. We are very happy with Abulous Lighting.
