Creating a welcoming entrance to your home involves more than just a beautiful front door or a well-manicured garden. One of the most impactful ways to enhance your home’s curb appeal and ensure safety is through strategic entrance lighting. Properly designed entrance lighting not only adds charm and elegance but also provides practical benefits like improved visibility and security. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to create a welcoming home with entrance lighting.

Planning Your Entrance Lighting

Before diving into the installation process, it’s crucial to plan your entrance lighting carefully. Consider the following steps:

  • Assess Your Needs: Determine the primary purpose of your entrance lighting. Is it for aesthetics, safety, or security? This will guide your choice of fixtures and placement.
  • Evaluate the Space: Take note of the areas that need illumination, such as pathways, stairs, doorways, and landscaping elements.
  • Choose the Right Fixtures: Select fixtures that match the style of your home and serve the intended purpose. Your options can include wall-mounted lights, post lights, pathway lights, and spotlights.

Landscape Lighting Installation

Landscape lighting installation is a key component of creating a welcoming entrance. Here are some tips to consider:

  • Highlight Pathways: Install pathway lights along walkways to guide guests to your door. Solar-powered or low-voltage LED lights are energy-efficient options that provide sufficient illumination without being too harsh.
  • Illuminate Steps and Stairs: Steps and stairs are potential tripping hazards, especially in the dark. Use step lights or recessed lighting to ensure these areas are well-lit.
  • Accent Landscaping Features: Use spotlights or uplights to accentuate trees, shrubs, and garden features. This not only adds depth and dimension to your yard but also enhances the overall aesthetic appeal.
  • Balance Light and Shadow: Avoid over-illumination by balancing light and shadows. This creates a more natural and inviting look. Use a combination of different types of lights to achieve this effect.

Outdoor Lighting Installation

In addition to landscape lighting, outdoor lighting installation around the entrance allows for creating a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Front Door Lighting: The front door is the focal point of your entrance. Install wall-mounted lanterns or sconces on either side of the door to create symmetry and provide ample light for visitors.
  • Overhead Lighting: Consider installing a pendant light or a chandelier in covered porch areas. This adds a touch of elegance and ensures the entrance is well-lit.
  • Motion Sensors and Timers: For added security and convenience, incorporate motion sensors and timers into your lighting system. This ensures that lights turn on automatically when someone approaches, providing both safety and energy efficiency.
  • Energy-Efficient Options: Opt for LED lights or solar-powered fixtures to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs. These options are environmentally friendly and have a longer lifespan compared to traditional bulbs.

Absolute Lighting installed my outdoor flood lights 2 years ago and they are beautiful! They did such a great job that I used them to setup and take down the Christmas lights for the past 2 years. I would highly recommend them. Frank always responds to questions and automatically puts me on the schedule for set up and take down of the Christmas Lights.

Frank and the team at Abulous were great to work with. They came out and retro-upgraded some previous lighting that we had done a few years back and made it look as seamless and continuous as possible. They also worked with us on the best (& most economical) way to light up a hard to reach area of our yard. They also followed up with us after we had another group of workers "disturb" some of the lighting wires and came back out and fixed everything back up again. Very friendly, dependable local resource who do great work. Highly recommend.

After reviewing multiple companies we contracted with Abilous Lighting to create outside accent lighting for our home, backyard patio, walkways, & fire pit.  Their ideas and design were the best!   It was a pleasure working with Frank Hasty, who did  the design, and his crew of Brandon & Rusty who performed the work.  All were excellent to work with.   We are very happy with Abulous Lighting.
