Do's and Don'ts of Choosing Light Fixtures

Selecting the right light fixtures is essential for creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment. Whether you’re considering upgrading your landscape or enhancing your home with outdoor lighting installation, the right choices can transform your space. Here are some key do's and don'ts to guide you in making the best decisions.

Do’s

  • Assess Your Space

Before purchasing light fixtures, evaluate the area you want to illuminate. For landscape lighting installation identify key features like walkways, gardens, and architectural elements. For outdoor lighting installation, focus on areas like patios, entryways, or driveways. Understanding the purpose of each light fixture helps you choose the right brightness, style, and placement.

  • Choose Energy-Efficient Options

Opt for energy-efficient lighting solutions such as LED fixtures. LEDs consume less power, last longer, and are available in various color temperatures to match your outdoor ambiance. They’re ideal for outdoor lighting installations, where lights often run for extended periods.

  • Prioritize Durability

Outdoor light fixtures must withstand weather conditions like rain, wind, and extreme temperatures. Select fixtures made from durable materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, or brass, and ensure they have proper weather-resistant ratings like IP65 or higher for landscape lighting installations in Milton.

  • Incorporate Layered Lighting

Create depth and dimension by combining different types of outdoor lighting. Use uplighting to highlight trees or statues, path lights for walkways, and wall-mounted sconces for entryways. Layered lighting adds sophistication and improves functionality.

  • Consult a Professional

When in doubt, hire an expert in outdoor lighting installation. A professional at Abulous Lighting can recommend the best fixtures, optimal placement, and wiring solutions to ensure safety and efficiency.

Don’ts

  • Don’t Overdo Brightness

While outdoor spaces need sufficient illumination, excessive brightness can be overwhelming and may cause glare. Avoid overly bright fixtures and opt for soft, warm lighting for a welcoming ambiance. Use dimmers or adjustable fixtures for flexibility.

  • Don’t Ignore Energy Costs

High-wattage fixtures or inefficient bulbs can lead to skyrocketing energy bills. Avoid outdated halogen or incandescent lights. Instead, prioritize energy-saving options like solar-powered lights or motion-activated sensors for landscape lighting installation.

  • Don’t Overlook Style

Outdoor light fixtures should complement your home’s architectural style and landscape design. For example, modern fixtures may clash with a rustic home. Ensure that your choices enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of your property.

  • Don’t Forget About Safety

Improperly installed fixtures or exposed wiring can pose safety hazards. Avoid DIY installations unless you have expertise in electrical work. Always hire a professional for outdoor lighting installations to ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Don’t Skimp on Quality

Cheap fixtures may save money upfront but often require frequent replacements due to wear and tear. Invest in high-quality fixtures designed specifically for outdoor use to avoid costly repairs and replacements.

Choosing the right light fixtures for your landscape lighting installation can elevate the beauty and functionality of your space. By following these do’s and don’ts, you’ll achieve a well-lit, energy-efficient, and visually appealing outdoor area. When in doubt, consult a lighting professional at Abulous Lighting to ensure your project is executed flawlessly and enhances your property.

Absolute Lighting installed my outdoor flood lights 2 years ago and they are beautiful! They did such a great job that I used them to setup and take down the Christmas lights for the past 2 years. I would highly recommend them. Frank always responds to questions and automatically puts me on the schedule for set up and take down of the Christmas Lights.

Frank and the team at Abulous were great to work with. They came out and retro-upgraded some previous lighting that we had done a few years back and made it look as seamless and continuous as possible. They also worked with us on the best (& most economical) way to light up a hard to reach area of our yard. They also followed up with us after we had another group of workers "disturb" some of the lighting wires and came back out and fixed everything back up again. Very friendly, dependable local resource who do great work. Highly recommend.

After reviewing multiple companies we contracted with Abilous Lighting to create outside accent lighting for our home, backyard patio, walkways, & fire pit.  Their ideas and design were the best!   It was a pleasure working with Frank Hasty, who did  the design, and his crew of Brandon & Rusty who performed the work.  All were excellent to work with.   We are very happy with Abulous Lighting.
