The main purpose of a well-lit walkway is to guide people safely while adding warmth and character to your outdoor spaces. However, property owners often install fixtures that blast light in the same direction, resulting in a yard that looks less welcoming and more like an airport runway. That’s where Abulous Lighting comes in as your trusted partner for comprehensive landscape lighting installation and maintenance services. With decades of experience, our outdoor lighting specialists in Atlanta, GA understand the impact that overly bright fixtures, poor spacing, and exposed bulbs can have on the visual appeal of illuminated spaces. That’s why we recommend thoughtful changes to help you restore balance and make your lighting more intentional rather than excessive.
If your outdoor lighting design makes pathways look like a runway, it is a sign that you have too many fixtures. A common misconception property owners have is that adding more lights automatically improves visibility. However, this is not the case, as excessive illumination can produce overlapping pools of light that make walkways cluttered and unnaturally bright. If you have a landscape lighting installation planned, consider reducing the number of fixtures. Consult a professional technician to create a tailored plan that accounts for elevation changes, curves, and surrounding features to eliminate every shadow.
While symmetrical outdoor lighting may seem like a good idea, it can create an unmistakable runway appearance. By placing fixtures at identical distances, you draw attention to the fixtures instead of allowing your landscape to take center stage. Instead, try staggering the lights rather than creating perfectly straight rows. This unique approach goes a long way to create a softer and more natural appearance. Placing fixtures at slightly different distances and altering sides of the walkway makes lighting blend with the landscape without looking like it’s painted onto it.
Did you know that brightness matters just as much as the number of fixtures? If you opt for extremely powerful bulbs for your landscape lighting installation project, you can overpower architectural features and create an uncomfortable glare. Additionally, the result can be bright illumination that makes it difficult to adjust your eyes when walking. The most effective method to avoid excessive brightness is to opt for lower-output bulbs. Outdoor lighting experts recommend warm color temperatures to make your space feel inviting.
Path lights with poorly shielded or exposed bulbs can produce harsh glare that makes your outdoor lighting design feel industrial. If your landscape lighting is visible from several angles, anyone walking on the property may see the bulb before noticing the walkway itself. With that said, choose fixtures designed to direct light outward and downward. A professional technician can use shades, caps, and shielded designs to hide the light source while distributing illumination across the walking surface. By making this simple adjustment for your landscape lighting installation, you can dramatically improve comfort and make your yard look more refined.
If your path lights look like an airport runway, don’t panic. Instead of adding more lights, you need a better lighting design. At Abulous Lighting, we account for fixture density, placement, shielding bulbs, and contrast to transform your walkways into a warm and inviting part of your landscape. We believe that good outdoor lighting should guide people without taking center focus. Contact us today to schedule a consultation with our experts and transform your yard into a well-lit space. We can tailor a design that makes all fixtures blend perfectly with the layout without being the focal point.

Absolute Lighting installed my outdoor flood lights 2 years ago and they are beautiful! They did such a great job that I used them to setup and take down the Christmas lights for the past 2 years. I would highly recommend them. Frank always responds to questions and automatically puts me on the schedule for set up and take down of the Christmas Lights.
Frank and the team at Abulous were great to work with. They came out and retro-upgraded some previous lighting that we had done a few years back and made it look as seamless and continuous as possible. They also worked with us on the best (& most economical) way to light up a hard to reach area of our yard. They also followed up with us after we had another group of workers "disturb" some of the lighting wires and came back out and fixed everything back up again. Very friendly, dependable local resource who do great work. Highly recommend.
After reviewing multiple companies we contracted with Abilous Lighting to create outside accent lighting for our home, backyard patio, walkways, & fire pit. Their ideas and design were the best! It was a pleasure working with Frank Hasty, who did the design, and his crew of Brandon & Rusty who performed the work. All were excellent to work with. We are very happy with Abulous Lighting.
